My Hope and Destiny Penny
Rug was long overdue in the
making. It sat in my 'dud'
basket for a year and a half
waiting for the stitches.
I know when I have a good
rug if the colours look as
though they do not need
stitches to make a great looking rug. Many times the threads
change the look of a rug and it seemed no matter what thread
or stitch I tried, it did not look complimentary on this design.
I stitched and raveled, stitched and raveled again until I
decided it would be destined for the 'dud' basket. It was
a difficult time in my life and at that time most things did
not work, not only my stitching.
My life has improved greatly from the beginnings
of this rug and I decided to try again. A good lesson
in life, keep trying no matter how difficult.
While stitching this rug I found myself again
in Jack Reacher's life with Lee Child's new book
Nothing To Lose. Lee Child is one of my
favourite writers but I must say the one
annoying part about Jack Reacher is his
wardrobe. Thank goodness few people are
like Jack ... where would I find wool for
my rugs! He has the ironing solved but Jack
needs to learn to use the laundromat more often!
In the new book Jack happens upon two towns,
Hope and Despair. Jack goes back to Despair but
I will not. I believe in destiny and so I changed
the title a bit to fit my rug.
Destiny to be a finished rug and Hope for
my hope of my future when I started this rug.
A beautiful penny rug in fall shades of brown,
beige and greens; aged perfectly to compliment
each other from the dye pot.
The threads are a spool of vintage something
of which I think may be a crochet thread found
many years ago at a flea market. I seldom use
'store bought' threads but this one asked
for 'store bought'.
The lining for this rug is from the same
antique quilt backing but has been aged to
compliment the browns of this rug. I have
made the backing time worn as would be
seen in an antique rug.
A beautiful rug that would
compliment both colonial
and traditional home decor.
