The making of my rugs is very enjoyable, the quiet repetition of the stitches and wandering thoughts to me are a form of meditation. I suppose it was the same process years ago when those frugal housewives used every tiny scrap of wool to make the antique rugs we all cherish today.
I have a problem with technology. My son recently would not let me buy a coffee pot with the time as he said it would just blink; along with high tech I have a problem with buttons.
It would be wonderful to just make my rugs and that is it. Enjoy the process but what does one do with so many rugs but sell them? I do not enjoy the process of selling on the Internet but it seems a logical way to keep making my rugs.
I am very blessed to have a wonderful son that can take a computer apart in his sleep...I have my very own tech support. I recently decided it was time to upgrade from the old computer to a new laptop and of course they now come with the Vista operating system.
I have tried for two weeks to update my website at EarlyStylePennyRugs thinking it was just a learning curve and to master a few 'new' buttons. I recently discovered the software program I used to build and maintain my website does not support Vista and therefor nothing works.
Until I learn a new program or find an old computer with Windows XP to maintain my site, it is temporarily disabled and I will post the new penny rugs here on my blog.
I am also not familiar with blogging but not knowing how to do something has never stopped me.
These are previews of the new rugs ... soon to be listed ...unless I have trouble with the buttons.
I hope you enjoy, any questions just email.
My favourite of the new rugs, a large two stack penny design in unusual shades.
I normally do not use pinks in my rugs but it works well in this colour scheme.
Still without a name as are all the new rugs until they are fully listed for sale.
A beautiful 'hit and miss' design. String feather stitching highlights the dark shades in this rug. My friend Colleen does a beautiful designs using the 'hit and miss' method of shading but I could never do them until now. This was one of the first rugs I made after my surgery so perhaps the pain medications may have something to do with the wild abandon of applying colours for me.
Again those medications eased my need to be 'perfect' in my rug making and
this very primitive rug came to be. Another design in the 'hit and miss' pennies
bordered by very old, worn cotton from an antique quilt.
The small bindings take almost as much time as the penny stitching for me as I do every stitch and every cut on my rugs the old fashioned way.. by the hands.
A simple little candle mat accented with the old fashioned quilt knot in the center. Another of the 'hit and miss' designs as I was rather getting the 'hang' of
putting those colours together but off the pain medications so they do look a
bit more organized in shading.
The second candle mat this month became a third. My soon to be daughter in law fell in love with a little candle mat I made and of course I was very pleased to give my mat a new home. I had a few pennies left from my first dye lot of wool and just enough to make this little mat. I do believe I am getting the 'hang' of this 'hit and miss' idea and can't wait to do another set without medications.
My rug that tested my patience turned out quite well. Many of us have those unfinished projects at the bottom of the basket or the back of the closet and this was soon to be destined for the 'dud' rug basket. The dud rug basket is where the
rugs go that I either do not like or they do not like me and nothing seems to work on getting a good design. This rug was started over a year ago when I was in the beginnings of some very dramatic life changes. I loved the shading of pennies but nothing seemed right no matter what I tried for stitching. I have taken more stitches out of this rug than it took to complete. A good lesson came from this rug for me. Never give up... both in my work and my life. A good rug with many thoughts of life sewn with each stitch.
These rugs will be listed with more photos and greater detail as soon as I figure out the buttons and become a blogger.
