Mamie Penny Rug

Oldrugs3as   The Mamie Penny Rug comes
from remembering my Aunt
Mamie's old farmhouse as a
child.  It was not primitive
in the definition of primitive
today but it was a warm, well
lived in home where as a child I felt a connection to the past

lives that called the old farmhouse a home.   Aunt Mamie's
house had the lived in feeling of common folk  and the sweet
smell of fresh milk in the creamer and molasses cookies
baking in the old wood stove.

The Mamie Penny Rug is another of my 'hit and miss'
designs this month and this rug would compliment
the Matilda Penny Rug.  Both rugs are made from
the same dye pot but on this rug I could not help
but make those stitches a bit more subtle.  The
stitching is very fine string done in a primitive
feather stitch.

The lining and binding are again
from the same old antique quilt
backing dyed to compliment
the shading in the rug.

I have aged the backing of this
rug to look time worn and aged.

My favourite of the 'hit and miss' rugs this month
with a very uneven, naive style as if a child were
learning at the hands of a patient mother to
stitch a rug.
